Overview

A powerful, mature Primitivo di Manduria Riserva from old bush vines in southern Puglia. Giunonico 2017 delivers blackberry, black cherry, cocoa and sweet spice, supported by velvety tannins and a long, warming finish.
Giunonico Primitivo di Manduria Riserva 2017 is a concentrated expression of southern Puglia's signature red grape, produced by Cantine PaoloLeo under its Vigne di San Donaci label. Sourced from approximately 70-year-old bush vines in the province of Taranto, the wine combines ripe black-fruit richness with the complexity developed through extended maturation. Twenty months in large oak casks, followed by four months in stainless steel and three months in bottle, create a full-bodied Riserva with depth, rounded tannins and a persistent savoury-spiced finish.

Why this wine matters

Giunonico showcases the concentration and character of old-vine Primitivo from Manduria. The grapes come from traditionally trained bush vines approximately 70 years old, grown on sandy soils in the Sava area of Taranto. Extended maturation in large oak casks develops complexity without overwhelming the wine's ripe fruit. The 2017 vintage was produced in a limited quantity of approximately 4,000 bottles.
