Popova Kula is a boutique winery and wine-tourism estate in the Demir Kapija Valley, the southernmost part of the Tikveš wine region. The winery was established as a greenfield project in 2004 and completed its first harvest in 2005. Its vineyards occupy distinctive limestone-rich sites influenced by abundant sunshine, warm winds from the south and cooler evening air descending from the Kožuf Mountains. Popova Kula is particularly important for its work preserving Macedonian and regional grape heritage, including Stanushina, and combines this local focus with small-batch fermentation, hand harvesting and maturation in French, American, Hungarian and Macedonian oak.
