Overview

An elegant, old-vine Sangiovese from Gaiole in Chianti, combining fragrant red fruit, tobacco, rhubarb and floral complexity with vibrant acidity, finely integrated tannins and a long, savoury finish.
Riecine di Riecine 2014 is a pure Sangiovese Toscana IGT sourced from the estate’s oldest vineyard in Gaiole in Chianti. Grown at 450–500 metres on limestone and clay soils, the organically cultivated vines were approximately 45 years old at harvest. The wine was fermented in Grenier wooden vats before spending 36 months in unlined Nomblot concrete eggs and a further six months in bottle. The result is a distinctive, mature expression of Tuscan Sangiovese, emphasising aromatic finesse, freshness and texture rather than overt oak influence.

Why this wine matters

Riecine di Riecine represents the estate’s most distinctive old-vine Sangiovese expression. The 2014 vintage was sourced from approximately 45-year-old vines, hand-harvested and rigorously selected before extended maturation in unlined concrete eggs. Produced in limited quantities, it demonstrates how Sangiovese can achieve aromatic complexity, refined tannins and longevity without relying on pronounced oak character.
