A powerful, barrel-fermented Austrian Chardonnay Reserve with tropical fruit, roasted almond, creamy bâtonnage texture and fine salinity.
Zwickl is K+K Kirnbauer’s full-bodied Chardonnay Reserve from Burgenland. Fermentation in new barrique and 10 months of barrel maturation with regular bâtonnage give the wine density and creaminess, while limestone soils and a subtle saline character provide definition. It is bottled after coarse filtration to preserve texture and aromatic intensity.
Why this wine matters
Zwickl shows a richer side of Austrian white wine: Chardonnay handled with a Burgundian-inspired barrel and lees regime rather than a purely crisp, stainless-steel approach. The combination of new barrique, bâtonnage and limestone gives it both breadth and tension, with the structure to develop further in bottle.
