Lebanon's Flagship Red Still Deserves Your Attention

Château Ksara Cuvée du Troisième Millénaire 2018

Bottle of Château Ksara Cuvée du Troisième Millénaire 2018 on a dining table with wine glass and warm ambient lighting

Château Ksara's Cuvée du Troisième Millénaire is a reminder that great Bordeaux-inspired blends aren't limited to France.

Why It’s Here

One of Lebanon’s benchmark wines and an excellent introduction to premium reds from the Bekaa Valley.

When people think of fine red wines, Lebanon is rarely the first country that comes to mind.

Perhaps it should be.

Long before many modern wine regions emerged, the Bekaa Valley was already cultivating vines under Phoenician, Greek and Roman influence. Today, Château Ksara continues that tradition, producing wines that combine Old World structure with the warmth and generosity of the eastern Mediterranean.

Among its flagship wines, Cuvée du Troisième Millénaire sits comfortably at the top of the range.

The 2018 vintage immediately announces itself with concentration rather than power. Blackcurrant, blackberry and ripe plum form the core of the wine, supported by cedar, sweet spice, tobacco and subtle notes of dark chocolate that develop as the wine opens.

On the palate, the wine is full-bodied but remarkably composed. Firm yet polished tannins frame the fruit without overwhelming it, while vibrant acidity keeps the wine balanced from the first sip to its long, persistent finish.

Built to Age

This is not a wine made for immediate gratification.

The careful integration of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Merlot creates a structure that will continue evolving for years.

The oak is present, but never dominant. Instead, it provides another layer of complexity, allowing the fruit to remain the centrepiece.

Even now, the wine continues to reveal new aromas as it spends time in the glass.

Why It Works So Well

Many Bordeaux-inspired blends focus solely on structure.

What impressed me most here is the balance between structure and generosity.

The warmth of the Bekaa Valley produces ripe fruit, while altitude preserves freshness. The result is a wine that feels powerful without becoming heavy.

It's the kind of bottle that encourages conversation rather than demanding attention.

Food Pairing

This is a wine that belongs at the dinner table.

Particularly with:

  • Dry-aged ribeye
  • Slow-roasted lamb
  • Beef Wellington
  • Mushroom risotto
  • Mature hard cheeses

Its firm structure also makes it an excellent partner for rich Middle Eastern cuisine, where spice and grilled meats complement the wine beautifully.

Merchant Note

Château Ksara has always represented one of the benchmarks of Lebanese winemaking.

While many consumers are only beginning to discover wines from Lebanon, bottles like Cuvée du Troisième Millénaire demonstrate that the country's finest producers have been crafting age-worthy wines for decades.

For anyone looking to explore beyond the traditional regions of France and Italy, this is an excellent place to begin.

Would This Work in Singapore?

Without question.

For collectors seeking something different, for restaurants looking to surprise guests, or simply for anyone wanting to discover why Lebanon remains one of the world's oldest wine-producing regions, this is a compelling bottle.

Notebook Reflection

Some wines impress because they are expensive. Others impress because they change how you think about a region. This wine belongs firmly in the second category.

Some wines earn their reputation one vintage at a time.
