The Lozärn Ivan S. Carménère 2022 is a tribute to Ivan Sedgwick and the remarkable story of a grape once mistaken for Merlot until its true identity was rediscovered in 1994. Lozärn proudly produced South Africa’s first single-varietal Carménère in 2017, and this 2022 vintage continues that legacy with exceptional finesse and character.
Crafted with meticulous attention, the wine undergoes manual punch-downs, 11 months of French barrel maturation, and an additional 5 months of settling, resulting in a polished, beautifully layered red wine with 14% alcohol and impeccable balance.
On the nose and palate, expect cloves, nutmeg, cocoa, and red fruit, enhanced by vibrant colour and silky tannins. Elegant and flavourful, this Carménère pairs perfectly with lean meats like duck or pork, especially when complemented by a cherry reduction.
