Founded in 2008, Deux Frères was built on a proud foundation by brothers Retief and Gustav, who inherited a rich family tradition of winemaking. Their journey began with the heritage of Hester and Marc Wiehe, former owners of the acclaimed L’Avenir Wine Estate, and today, Deux Frères carries that vision forward with precision and passion.

The name “Deux Frères” itself means two brothers in French—a nod to both their bond and their shared commitment to producing wines that speak authentically of their Stellenbosch origins.

The Terroir: Granite, Sun & Soul

The estate’s vineyards are rooted in granitic soils, a key element that gives the wines their characteristic depth, structure, and minerality. Combined with Stellenbosch’s Mediterranean climate—warm days, cool nights, and a coastal breeze—the result is a perfect balance between power and elegance in every vintage.

In 2025, they launched the Klein Graniet label, symbolising both the intimate size of their farm (klein meaning small in Afrikaans) and the granite-rich terroir that defines their style.
