Road cycling transformed into friendship. One of the guys got married in May 2019 and the rest of them traveled for a wedding in a country 9,100 km away – Macedonia.
We spent two weeks road tripping around the country enjoying the nature and boozing up with great wine paired with delicious food.
Few months later, something that started as a casual joke about bringing this great wine to Singapore, slowly evolved into detailed supply chain planning, overcoming administrative roadblocks and building partnerships. Ultimately this resulted in vino.sg.
Although we can’t bring the beautiful sceneries and the warm Balkan hospitality, we are extremely excited about offering wine from a region that has tradition of producing it for more than 2000 years. We can’t wait to embark on this journey together with you and learn how to best pair it with the local Asian delicacies.
The Land and the Wine
The region Macedonia spans across 5 countries, each of which is unique both in the traditions nurtured throughout centuries, as well as by the vines they grow and the wine they make. In our cellars we have red, white and rose wine from Republic of North Macedonia, produced from well-known grape types such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Chardonnay, to local indigenous varieties like Vranec, Kratosija, Rkaciteli, Smederevka and Temjanika.
Our wine comes from the Povardarie Wine Region, which comprises almost 90% of the total production of grape and wine in the country. The region is in the heart of the Balkans, where the influence of the Mediterranean and Continental climate with 260 sunny days during the year, makes it perfect for viticulture and wine making.
